‼️$200 for proof of Asher the cat’s whereabouts. Have you seen him? If you fostered or adopted him, or if you know something, please reach out.‼️ Please share this post!

Asher was “rescued” by Humane Society of the Dunes in November 2022. He was originally at Indianapolis Animal Care Services before HSotD pulled him. The founder of the rescue is Jane Hullsie and the rescue is based out of Chesterton in Northwest Indiana (NWI).

Although “rescue only” animals are normally posted by the IACS Shelter Rescue Team page (formerly called IACS Rescue), there was no post made by them about Asher until they posted a photo of his “freedom ride”, photos traditionally taken by volunteer transporters when animals leave a shelter. Oftentimes the rescue coordinator at IACS would reach out to rescues privately without posting the animals publicly, so this was not an uncommon occurrence for the animal not to have a post.

Asher had an ulcer on his eye while at the Indy shelter and that is all we know for now about why he was sent to rescue. Soon after he went to Humane Society of the Dunes, the IACS Rescue page posted a comment update stating Asher had a button sewed on his eye in hopes he’d get to keep the eye.

Of the 55 cats that Humane Society of the Dunes took from IACS, only three of them (Asher, Bucky, and Littles) were ever posted about on their Facebook page, all over a 24 hour period between February 1-2, 2024. This was not at the time those animals were rescued. Rather it was a few months after an IACS volunteer brought up concerns about Humane Society of the Dunes at the December 2023 IACS advisory board meeting during the public comment period. Soon after, IACS stopped allowing Humane Society of the Dunes to pull any more of their animals. There was a lot of attention over this on social media from December 2023 to February 2024, and Jane posted a flurry of unusual “updates” in February 2024.

She posted a photo of Asher in which the cat appears to have two healthy eyes and a small scar near the eye. It is clear from the surroundings that like most of the other “updates”, the photo was taken in Jane’s home. She captioned the photo, “Asher’s eye surgery went well and he can see fairly well.”

Three other cats went to Humane Society of the Dunes on the same day as Asher (Nancy, Baloo, and Hudson). Nothing was ever posted about any of them by Jane.

No fosters or adopters of any of these cats (nor any other IACS animals that went to HSotD) have come forward, and Jane Hullsiek has not been forthcoming with updates when asked previously.

Where is Asher today? Did Jane adopt him? Does she still have him? The photo she shared shows him recovered, in her own home. Did he get adopted after that photo was taken? There is $200* available to anyone who knows the answer to where Asher is and is willing to provide some proof. It’s never too late to tell the truth.
